Global Health and the Experience of One TCK

During this talk the experiences of third culture persons with respect to health in an international, borderless context will be discussed by the illustrative use of
examples on how being such a person influenced and complicated her involvement in international health programs.
The presentation will include the accretion, influence and utility of a diverse array tools which are the product of life-long learning and personal experience such as:
  • language skills
  • early exposure to cultural differences
  • differences in frames of reference and cognition
  • viewing the US as “they” rather than “we”
  • early understanding of powerlessness
  • being in a minority but one that gained and wields power
