Rebuilding in Areas of Conflict
Leader Dick Brown ‘58
This session will focus on the challenges, the opportunities, and the achievements of sustainable development programs in Pakistan and Afghanistan – neighbors to Woodstock’s home of India. Dialogue with the audience will be encouraged to increase understanding of the current situation in these countries, the mood of the people and their hopes for the future.
Dick attributes his interest in international development work to the education he received at Woodstock, its learning environment, its willingness to challenge him intellectually and physically. Being raised in India provided an invaluable background, creating an enabling platform to comfortably function across a wide range of cultures.
The workshop will reflect upon the challenges and rewards of working on the design and implementation of sustainable development projects in fragile and conflict-prone areas, with a platform for discussion from Dick’s own rich career experiences, such as in these countries, and his background as a Woodstock alumnus.
